ACCORDING TO SCHEDULE
Homeowners policies contain dollar or coverage limitations for certain classes of property. To better insure items whose value exceeds these limitations, they can be covered for their value by “scheduling” them on a policy for the actual value
. For instance, homeowners with valuable property such as fine art, collectibles, or jewelry should consider scheduling them on a separate endorsement. Typically, schedules are covered on an “open perils” basis, which extends coverage to include occurrences such as losing a valuable gemstone from an engagement ring. In addition, scheduled personal property carries no deductible. And because appraisals are generally required, the chance of a disagreement arising over the value of the item is greatly reduced.
NOTE: Scheduled special items are not subject to depreciation.
